Silver Beefeater Description

Silver Beefeater is a historical expression from the Beefeater distillery, introduced as a lighter interpretation of its classic London Dry Gin. Bottled at 40 percent alcohol by volume, it was conceived to offer a more approachable profile while preserving the traditional identity and botanical structure that have defined Beefeater since the nineteenth century. Like all Beefeater gins of its era, it was distilled in London, maintaining a strong link to the city that gave birth to the London Dry style.

The botanical recipe follows the long-established Beefeater formula built around nine botanicals. Juniper berries form the structural backbone, delivering a clean and resinous core. Citrus elements from lemon peel and Seville orange peel bring brightness and lift, while coriander seed contributes a dry, slightly spicy citrus character. Angelica root and angelica seed provide earthy and woody depth, reinforcing dryness and balance. Orris root adds a subtle floral softness and acts as a natural fixative, while almond introduces a gentle roundness. Liquorice root completes the composition with a faint natural sweetness that smooths the overall profile without dominating it.

On the nose, Silver Beefeater presents clear juniper supported by fresh citrus zest and light herbal notes. The palate is crisp and dry, with an immediate juniper presence followed by lemon, bitter orange and gentle spice. The mouthfeel is clean and direct, with restrained weight, reflecting its lower bottling strength compared to Beefeater’s core expression. The finish is dry and tidy, leaving lingering citrus peel and soft herbal tones.

The gin is produced using traditional pot still distillation, with botanicals steeped in neutral grain spirit prior to distillation, in line with classic London Dry practices. This method ensures precise extraction of aromas and a clear, well-defined flavor profile. Silver Beefeater is particularly suited to classic serves such as a Gin and Tonic with a restrained garnish or a dry Martini, where its balance and clarity can be fully appreciated without overpowering other ingredients.

Large ice cubes keep the serve cold while limiting dilution. Seville orange peel enhances the natural citrus notes of the gin and balances the bitterness of the tonic.
