Privacy policy

1. Who we are

GinToLove is published by Adrien Laloyaux (MonkeyDev Solutions), the controller of your data. For any question about your data: contact@gintolove.com.

2. The data we collect

• Your account : email address, username, login identifier, avatar; and, if you fill them in, bio, city, date of birth, Twitter and Instagram handles, preferred language.
• Your activity : ratings, reviews, favourites, wishlist, bar, Top 10, saved searches, badges and level, gins you suggest.
• Bottle photos : only when you start a scan in the app (see section 4).
• Technical data : IP address and browser type, for security and abuse prevention; views of gin pages, counted without IP address.
• Analytics : on the website only, Google Analytics, only if you accept it in the cookie banner. The app contains no advertising and no ad-tracking tools.

3. Why we use them

• To run your account and the service: lists, ratings, reviews, profile (performance of the service you request).
• To protect the service against fraud and abuse (legitimate interest).
• To complete the catalogue from scans and suggestions (legitimate interest).
• To measure website audience (consent, which you can withdraw at any time via “Manage cookies”).

Your data is never sold or used for advertising.

4. Bottle scanning

The app only accesses your camera and photos when you start a scan. The photo is sent to a text-recognition (OCR) service, which reads its text; GinToLove does not keep the photo. The text read is used to find the gin.

If no gin is found, this text is kept for at most 90 days, with no photo and no link to your account, to spot gins missing from the catalogue. If you suggest that gin, the text read is attached to your suggestion and erased as soon as it is reviewed, and after 90 days at the latest.

5. Your taste portrait

Your portrait is written from your username and your Top 10 (the gins, and the notes you added) with the help of an artificial intelligence tool, without your email address.

6. What others can see

Your username, avatar and published reviews are public. Depending on your privacy settings, your bar, favourites, wishlist, Top 10 and ratings may be too. Your email is never shown unless you turn it on.

7. Our service providers

They process your data on our behalf, only for the service described:

• Microsoft Azure: hosting of the website, app back end, database and images.
• Okta (Auth0): sign-in and credentials. Your passwords are handled by Auth0 and never stored by GinToLove.
• Text recognition (OCR): reading the text of scanned labels.
• Google Analytics: website audience measurement, if you accept it.
• Hostinger: background task processing server.

Some of these providers may process data outside the European Union, notably in the United States (Auth0, Google). These transfers are covered by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.

8. How long

• Your account and activity: for as long as your account exists.
• Text read during a scan with no result: 90 days at most.
• Text read attached to a suggestion: until it is reviewed, 90 days at most.
• Bottle photos: never kept.

9. Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time, in the app (Profile → Settings and privacy) or on this page. Your personal data, lists and review texts are deleted, along with your login. Your ratings, without text, stay in the averages, attached to an account emptied of all personal data.

10. Your rights

You can access your data, correct it (in your settings), delete it, ask for its portability, object to processing based on our legitimate interest and withdraw your cookie consent. Write to us at contact@gintolove.com ; we reply within one month. You may also lodge a complaint with your country's data protection authority.

11. Minimum age

GinToLove is about alcohol: the service is for adults only (18 and over).

12. Security

All traffic is encrypted (HTTPS). In the app, your session is kept in your phone's secure storage.
