Gin d'Arche is a French barrel-aged gin created by Château d'Arche, a Sauternes estate classified as a Second Growth in the Bordeaux classification of 1855. The gin belongs to D'Arche Spirits, a range developed to extend the identity of the estate beyond wine by using its Sauternes casks to finish selected spirits. Its profile is therefore closely tied to the vineyard and to barrels that previously held the estate's sweet wine.
The gin is made from an infusion of juniper berries, coriander, acacia flowers, grapes, orange, lime and angelica root. These ingredients bring together the recognisable structure of gin with floral and citrus elements that echo the aromatic world of Sauternes. Juniper remains central, giving a dry and resinous backbone, while coriander and angelica root provide spice and structure. Orange and lime bring freshness, acacia flowers add a delicate floral note, and grapes reinforce the link with the wine estate.
Before receiving the gin, the barrels spend eighteen months in contact with Château d'Arche's Sauternes wine. During this period, the wood absorbs part of the wine's sweetness, golden colour and grape-derived character. The gin itself is then refined for two months in these Sauternes casks. This distinction is important: the eighteen months refer to the preparation of the barrels by the wine, while the gin maturation lasts two months.
On the nose, Gin d'Arche shows citrus and floral notes, with orange, lime and acacia appearing around a core of juniper. The barrel finish adds a softer, rounder impression without masking the botanical base. On the palate, the texture is smooth and balanced, moving from fresh citrus and floral tones toward gentle woody notes. The Sauternes casks contribute subtle sweetness and a golden hue, while coriander and angelica preserve the dry, structured character expected from gin.
The finish remains elegant and moderately persistent, with citrus peel, florality, juniper and restrained oak. Gin d'Arche can be served neat or over a large cube of ice, where its texture and barrel influence are easiest to appreciate. It can also be used in a gin and tonic with a restrained tonic water, or in cocktails that benefit from a rounded gin with citrus and subtle wine-cask character.
