Salcombe Gin Start Point is a British London Dry Gin from Salcombe Distilling Company, inspired by the coastal character of Salcombe and named after the Start Point lighthouse. Start Point is a crisp, maritime-leaning dry gin with a large citrus frame and a carefully built spice structure. It evokes clean sea air, citrus peel and a dry botanical backbone without becoming a flavoured coastal caricature.
The botanical list is generous: Macedonian juniper, fresh lemon peel, fresh lime peel, fresh grapefruit peel, cardamom, liquorice, cinnamon bark, chamomile, coriander seeds, cubeb berries, angelica root and bay leaf. The three fresh citrus peels define the opening, while cardamom, cubeb, cinnamon and coriander provide spice and the roots bring dryness. The gin is presented as a London Dry, so the freshness comes from distilled botanicals and a controlled balance rather than from added fruit sweetness.
The nose is bright, saline in impression and citrus-led, with lemon, lime and grapefruit rising clearly over juniper. The palate is dry and energetic: citrus oils give lift, cardamom and cubeb add snap, chamomile softens the centre, and bay leaf adds a discreet herbal edge. The finish is long, clean and zesty.
At 44% ABV, Start Point is an excellent gin and tonic gin, especially with red grapefruit or citrus peel. It also works in a Martini or Collins when the desired style is crisp, dry and coastal without losing classical gin structure.
The richness of the botanical list never turns heavy because the citrus structure stays in control. That makes Start Point a very complete coastal gin: aromatic enough to feel distinctive, dry enough for classic gin drinkers, and bright enough to deliver a refreshing long serve without losing depth.
