Ginderella Gin is a Belgian New Western Dry Gin from Heynsquared, created around the idea that overlooked plants can become serious botanical ingredients. The gin is closely linked to Ghent and to fresh foraging: its identity comes from a set of extracts that combine classic gin references with edible weeds and invasive plants gathered in the surrounding area. This gives Ginderella a personality that is both local and contemporary, with a botanical story that goes beyond a standard citrus-and-juniper recipe.
The recipe is built around nine extracts divided between three classic botanicals, three weeds and three invasive species. Juniper provides the gin structure, while kaffir lime brings a vivid citrus accent and black pepper adds dry aromatic warmth. The foraged elements include herb-robert, Japanese knotweed, lesser swine-cress, Armenian blackberry and giant hogweed. These plants give the gin a green, earthy and slightly wild dimension, reflecting the producer's focus on fresh material rather than a purely conventional dried-botanical profile.
On the nose, Ginderella opens with clean citrus and fresh green notes. Kaffir lime gives a bright, almost leafy lift, while black pepper adds a fine spicy edge. The palate is dry and botanical, with juniper acting as the base rather than the only subject. The herbal and foraged components bring texture and depth: some notes lean toward garden herbs, others toward roots, stems and green vegetation. The finish remains fresh, with citrus peel, pepper and a lightly earthy persistence.
Ginderella works well in a gin and tonic when the serve keeps the gin's unusual botanical character visible. A clean tonic such as Thomas Henry Tonic Water gives enough bitterness and sparkle without masking the fresh plant notes. A kaffir lime leaf is a coherent garnish because it echoes one of the clearest aromatic markers in the gin, while also reinforcing the citrus-green lift that makes Ginderella distinctive among modern Belgian gins.
