The Botanist Distiller's Strength Description

The Botanist Distiller's Strength is a higher-strength expression from Bruichladdich Distillery on Islay, bottled at 50% ABV to give the gin more intensity, texture and cocktail presence. It is built from the same philosophical core as The Botanist Islay Dry Gin: a base of classic gin botanicals and a distinctive set of 22 hand-foraged Islay botanicals. In this version, the higher strength gives the recipe a fuller mouthfeel and a more concentrated aromatic delivery, designed especially for bartenders and spirit-forward serves.

The aromatic profile is led by juniper, spice and Islay herbs. Cinnamon, coriander and juniper provide the platform, while the 22 local botanicals bring the wild character of the island into focus. Delicate mints, sweet gale and wild thyme shape the opening, then soft juniper, citrus, water mint, wood sage and clover stretch the finish as the weight of flavour slowly fades. This is not a flavoured gin in the sweet sense; it is a dry, aromatic gin whose higher proof amplifies the herbal, floral and spicy dimensions already present in the house style.

On the nose, Distiller's Strength opens with sweet juniper and warming spice, then brightens through citrus freshness. The herbal influence builds gradually, moving from mint and thyme toward deeper green, slightly earthy island notes. The palate is velvety and concentrated. Juniper sits firmly at the centre, supported by coriander and cinnamon, while the Islay botanicals move across the mouth in layers: fresh herbs, floral lift, dry spice and a faint coastal clarity. The higher strength adds body, but the gin remains balanced rather than hot.

The finish is long, powerful and aromatic, with citrus, soft juniper, mint, wood sage and clover lingering after the first wave of spice has faded. It is a natural fit for a Martini, a Negroni or a crisp gin and tonic where the gin should remain clearly audible through dilution and mixer. In a G&T, a classic tonic and a small thyme sprig or lemon peel are enough. It is best read as a dry, bartender-oriented Islay gin: concentrated, herbal, textural and unmistakably shaped by The Botanist's local botanical identity.
