Double You Gin Vintage Vanilla is a Belgian special edition from Brouwerij & Alcoholstokerij Wilderen, built on the aromatic foundation of Double You Gin and shaped by the addition of natural vanilla during distillation. The release was introduced around the fourth anniversary of Double You Gin and follows the recognition of the range at the Crystal Award in 2017. It keeps the identity of Wilderen’s double-winged gin while giving the profile a warmer, more immediately recognisable aromatic direction.
The base recipe draws on 21 herbs and spices, with confirmed botanicals including juniper berries, hops, rose, blossoms and coriander. Natural vanilla adds a soft, rounded register without removing the gin from its botanical frame. Rose and blossoms bring a floral dimension, coriander adds lift and gentle spice, hops contribute a lightly herbal bitterness, and juniper keeps the structure anchored in gin. Fresh mint completes the profile with a clean, refreshing aftertaste.
On the nose, Vintage Vanilla opens with sweet vanilla, floral petals and a delicate aromatic lift. The palate develops the vanilla more clearly, supported by rose, rosehip-like floral notes and a discreet touch of juniper. The balance is not built on heavy sweetness; it is carried by the contrast between a smooth vanilla impression, a floral core and a fresh mint finish. At 43.7% alcohol by volume, the gin retains enough strength to stay defined in mixed serves while offering a softer, more fragrant character than a classic dry expression.
Double You Gin Vintage Vanilla works well in a gin and tonic where a neutral or lightly floral tonic allows the vanilla and rose to remain visible. A restrained garnish such as mint, a rose petal or a citrus twist can support the aromatic direction without crowding the glass. Its profile is especially suited to drinkers looking for a Belgian gin with a recognisable signature: floral, gently sweet in aroma, fresh on the finish and still connected to the complex herbal base of the original Double You Gin.
