1836 Organic Barrel Aged Gin Description

Produced by Radermacher Distillery, founded in 1836 and recognized as one of Belgium's oldest operating distilleries, 1836 Organic Barrel Aged Gin is a certified organic spirit shaped by a long-standing tradition of grain distillation and maturation. The gin is composed of selected botanicals including juniper berries, coriander, lemon and orange peels, rosemary, aniseed, and sweet woodruff, a distinctive ingredient historically used in herbal preparations and aromatic beverages.

After distillation, the spirit undergoes oak barrel maturation in casks previously used for the house Lambertus single malt. This controlled aging process influences the aromatic structure, softening citrus intensity and reinforcing resinous and herbal tones. The cask interaction contributes vanilla nuance, dry oak texture, and a light tannic imprint without overt dominance.

On the nose, the gin presents restrained citrus oils layered over aromatic rosemary and woodland herbal tones. The palate confirms balance between juniper structure and the rounded barrel influence. Texture is gently weighted, maintaining clarity rather than sweetness. The finish is measured, with vanilla and oak returning quietly alongside a dry botanical note from sweet woodruff. Served neat, it reveals the full maturation profile; in mixing, a neutral, low-sugar tonic preserves definition. Garnish discretion is recommended to preserve the oak-derived subtleties.
