Gins to love!

Ar Roch Le Gin d'Hiver is created by Distillerie Ar Roc'h in Brittany, a region known for its strong identity, rugged landscapes and deep-rooted spirit-making traditions. This expression was conceived as a seasonal interpretation of gin, inspired by the atmosphere of winter and the sensory impressions associated with colder months, such as warm spices, dried peels and earthy, resinous botanicals.
The base of the gin remains anchored in classic juniper, which provides structure and a distinct pine-like foundation. Around this core, coriander, angelica root, cinnamon, ginger and orange peel are carefully balanced. These ingredients contribute a combination of freshness, warmth and depth. Additional botanicals complete the composition, adding subtle complexity without overshadowing the main elements. The intention is not simply to create a spiced spirit, but to capture a specific seasonal mood rooted in nature.
The botanicals are infused into a neutral base spirit before distillation in traditional copper stills. This process allows the essential oils to be gently extracted and preserves both the freshness of the citrus elements and the aromatic intensity of the spices. The result is a clear, well-defined distillate that expresses the character of each botanical while maintaining overall balance.
On the nose, Ar Roch Le Gin d'Hiver opens with a combination of resinous juniper and sweet orange peel, quickly followed by warm notes of cinnamon and ginger. Coriander adds a light citrusy and slightly peppery nuance, while angelica root introduces an earthy, almost woody background. The aromatic impression evokes dried herbs, spices and forest floor in winter, without becoming heavy or overpowering.
On the palate, the entry is smooth and structured. Juniper appears first, then gives way to the warmth of cinnamon and the subtle heat of ginger. The orange peel brings brightness and a slight bitterness that keeps the profile from becoming sweet. Herbal and earthy tones from angelica and the other botanicals add depth and length. The texture is round yet dry, with a controlled evolution of flavours across the palate.
The finish is persistent and warming, marked by lingering spice, gentle citrus bitterness and an earthy, herbal echo. There is no added sweetness, allowing the spices and botanicals to speak clearly and leaving a clean and slightly dry aftertaste that reinforces its winter identity.
Ar Roch Le Gin d'Hiver is particularly well suited to comforting serves. It works well in a classic gin and tonic with a neutral or lightly spiced tonic, garnished with a slice of orange or a stick of cinnamon. It can also be used in winter-inspired cocktails, such as variations on the Negroni or a hot cocktail preparation, where its spicy and earthy character brings depth and warmth while maintaining the structure of a true gin.
