Gins to love!

Whitley Neill Small Batch is a gin developed as part of the Whitley Neill portfolio, drawing on both traditional English distilling practices and the personal heritage of the Neill family. The recipe reflects Johnny Neill’s intent to reinterpret classic gin structure through the use of botanicals inspired by African flavours, a recurring theme within the brand’s identity.
The gin is built on a foundation of traditional botanicals including juniper, coriander seeds, angelica root, orris root and cassia bark, which provide structure, dryness and gentle spice. Citrus freshness is introduced through lemon, while the profile is further shaped by two distinctive ingredients of African origin: cape gooseberry and baobab. These botanicals are selected to complement rather than dominate the core gin character.
On the nose, Whitley Neill Small Batch offers a balanced aromatic profile where juniper and citrus are immediately apparent, followed by subtle fruity nuances from cape gooseberry and a soft, rounded earthiness associated with baobab. Herbal and lightly woody notes from the root botanicals add depth and complexity.
The palate is clean and expressive, with juniper providing a clear backbone. Bright citrus notes are supported by gentle fruit sweetness and restrained spice, creating a rounded and harmonious mouthfeel. The texture remains smooth and controlled, allowing each botanical to be perceived without excess.
The finish is dry and moderately persistent, leaving impressions of citrus peel, mild spice and understated fruit. Whitley Neill Small Batch is well suited to a classic gin and tonic, where its layered profile can be appreciated with minimal garnish, and it also performs effectively in cocktails that benefit from a contemporary yet structured gin base.
