Pink Forest Gin Description

Pink Forest Gin places ripe forest berries beside wild juniper in a deliberately concise recipe. It is made in Oberkirch by Franz Fies GmbH, the Black Forest distillery whose roots lie in the region's fruit-spirit tradition. Bottled at 37.5% ABV in a 50 cl format, the gin uses its berry character as the main counterpoint to juniper rather than hiding it behind a long list of unrelated botanicals. Its clear pink colour and broad bottle make that fruit-led identity immediately visible.

The aroma moves between fresh berry flesh and the drier, resinous scent of juniper. The fruit brings a rounded impression without erasing the botanical backbone, so the nose remains recognisably that of a gin. On the palate, the berries give a soft, juicy opening, followed by a firmer herbal and pine-like line from the wild juniper. The moderate strength keeps the texture easy and open, while the finish brings the two ingredients back together in a clean alternation of fruit and gentle bitterness.

What distinguishes Pink Forest is the directness of that pairing. There is no need to imagine flowers, exotic spices or citrus that the recipe does not claim: the interest comes from the contrast between ripe woodland fruit and the dry edge of juniper. Served well chilled, the gin shows a softer berry centre; with a little dilution, the juniper becomes clearer and gives the finish more definition. This balance makes it accessible without turning it into a simple sweet pink drink.

Fentimans Pink Grapefruit Tonic Water gives the berry notes a brighter, slightly bitter frame. Use plenty of ice and keep the garnish restrained: a thin ribbon of rhubarb adds a fresh tart accent, while a small sprig of mint lifts the aroma without covering the forest berries. The distillery also recommends Wild Berry or tonic water, so a neutral tonic is a good alternative when the aim is to place the juniper more firmly at the centre of the glass.

To fully appreciate the delicate flavors, ensure the tonic is well-chilled before mixing. The rhubarb slice not only adds visual appeal but also subtly intensifies the drink's fruity profile.

Instructions

In a chilled highball glass, combine 5 cl of Pink Forest Gin with 15 cl of Fentimans Pink Rhubarb Tonic Water.

The tonic's subtle rhubarb tartness complements the gin's floral and fruity notes, enhancing its natural berry-infused hue.

Add a handful of ice cubes to maintain a crisp temperature.

Garnish with a thin slice of fresh rhubarb, gently twisted to release its aroma, and a sprig of mint for a refreshing finish.

For alternative pairings, consider Franklin & Sons Rhubarb & Hibiscus Tonic Water or Fever-Tree Elderflower Tonic Water.
