Coastal botanicals gathered near the distillery give this limited edition its subject, and the sea is doing more here than supplying a name. Hendrick's keeps the rose and cucumber that define the house, then surrounds them with locally sourced plants and citrus at 43.4% ABV, drawing on coriander, angelica root, chamomile and elderflower alongside yarrow, meadowsweet, caraway and cubeb berry.

Citrus arrives first and it is bright rather than sweet, setting a fresh top note over everything that follows. Rose and elderflower supply the floral half, delicate and quite pale, while chamomile adds a soft honeyed weight beneath them. The herbs are what make the bottle unusual: yarrow and meadowsweet are hedgerow and meadow plants rather than distillery staples, green and faintly bitter, and caraway with cubeb berry brings a dry aromatic spice that keeps the flowers from settling. Beneath all of it sits the cool watery cucumber line the house has always used, and here it stands in for a sea breeze as closely as any botanical could. The finish is smooth and notably long.

That length is worth protecting. Only a plain tonic makes sense here, since three flowers and a herb list this long leave no room whatever for a botanical mixer. Fill it to the brim with ice and pour without hurrying, because brisk carbonation will strip the lighter herbs if it hits them all at once. Cucumber remains the garnish that belongs, cool and neutral enough to let the coastal herbs come through; a lemon twist works if you want the citrus sharpened instead. Among the house's limited releases, it is this one that leans hardest on plants rather than on fruit, and it is the better for that choice. It ends floral, herbal and fresh, the meadowsweet and yarrow lasting once the citrus has gone.
