Beefeater Zesty Lemon brings a bright lemon character to the brand's London Dry Gin, at 37.5% ABV. The recipe keeps the nine botanicals of the classic gin and adds natural lemon flavouring, with no added sugar. The idea connects with founder James Burrough, who selected fresh lemons at London's Covent Garden market. Here, lemon is not a decorative accent: it is the clear aromatic focus, while the familiar juniper-led base remains present beneath it.
Citrus · Dry
The botanical list includes juniper, lemon and orange peel, coriander seed, angelica root and seed, almond, orris root and liquorice root. Lemon peel gives the nose a fresh, sharply defined citrus note. The orange peel adds a quieter bitter-citrus dimension, and the roots, seeds and juniper keep the aroma recognisably grounded in gin rather than in sweet lemon cordial. The natural lemon flavouring intensifies that citrus direction without added sugar.
The first impression is lemon zest: clean, lively and slightly fragrant. Juniper follows with a dry, resinous note, while coriander and the other botanicals give the palate a gentle warmth and a rounded finish. The flavour stays focused instead of becoming sugary, and the citrus remains clear after the first sip. At 37.5% ABV, it is an approachable gin for a long drink, with enough juniper in the base to keep the lemon from taking over completely.
A simple gin and tonic lets the contrast come through. Pour 5 cl over plenty of clear ice, add about 12 cl of Indian tonic, and finish with a lemon wheel and a small sprig of lemon thyme. Both garnishes are recommended by Beefeater and bring fresh citrus and herbal aromas to the glass. Keep the tonic neutral and avoid extra syrup: the gin already supplies a distinct lemon note. It also works in a Lemon Fizz or a White Negroni, where its citrus character can meet acidity or bitterness without losing the juniper underneath.
