Rosemary SprigNavy Strength Gin · 57 % ABV · NZ
Bartenders and gin enthusiasts asked Broken Heart for a gin with a stronger punch for bolder creations, and the Queenstown distillery answered with this Navy Strength. Bottled at 57% ABV in 700 ml bottles, it captures the character of the Broken Heart Original Gin with an even more powerful botanical impact. Like the Original, it is juniper-ledJuniper-forwardA classic profile where juniper clearly dominates, with resinous, piney notes.Glossary and made with the same glacier-fed water. The name refers to the strength once required for spirits carried on naval ships.
Citrus · Herbal · Navy Strength
The distillery describes the profile as pine, citrus, herbaceous, green, bold and clean. Juniper and pine come first and hard, followed by a bright citrus edge. The herbaceous, green side is more pronounced at this strength, and a warm spice closes the finish. The texture is dense and oily, and a little water helps to separate the layers. Despite its power, the finish stays clean rather than hot, which is what makes it useful behind the bar. Pine dominates the nose, as it does in the Original, but with more depth and length.
Broken Heart was founded by two German master distillers, Joerg and Bernd, and named in memory of Bernd after his sudden death. This bottling was made with cocktails in mind: a MartiniDry MartiniGin and a little dry vermouth, stirred over ice and served in a well-chilled stemmed glass, with an olive or a twist.Glossary, a NegroniNegroniAn Italian cocktail of equal parts gin, sweet vermouth and red bitter (Campari), served over ice with orange peel. Its strength also stands up to bold mixers such as ginger beer or bitter lemon. It suits a Martinez as well.
For the G&T, fill a large copa with solid ice and add 4 cl of Broken Heart Navy Strength Gin and 10 cl of Fentimans Mediterranean Tonic Water. Stir briefly and add a lemon twist with a small rosemary sprig. The herbal tonic and rosemary match the gin's green side, and the lemon brightens the citrus.
