Oxley London Dry Gin is made in England using a cold-distillation method developed by its producers. The process begins with botanicals macerated in neutral grain spirit for fifteen hours. The pressure is reduced so the spirit can boil at sub-zero temperature: the kettle is taken to -5°C, and the vapour meets a condenser at -127°C. Oxley describes this approach as a way to preserve the fresh character of its ingredients. Each bottle is individually numbered, and the gin is bottled at 47% ABV.
Citrus · Dry · Herbal
The citrus selection is unusually explicit. Grapefruit, orange and lemon peels are sourced from Murcia in Spain, hand-peeled and frozen within twenty-four hours. They join juniper and eleven other botanicals in a total recipe of fourteen. The producer also names coriander and nutmeg among the ingredients. The resulting aroma is clean and bright, with fresh citrus first and a quieter juniper note behind it. Coriander and nutmeg suggest a dry, gently spiced support, while the peel contributes freshness rather than confectionery sweetness.
On the palate, the citrus arrives briskly and remains clear through the middle, where juniper keeps the drink recognisably dry. The texture is smooth, and the 47% bottling gives the flavours enough concentration for a short cocktail. A light spice from the supporting botanicals follows the citrus, then the finish settles into a clean, lasting freshness. The cold process and the use of fresh-frozen peel are central to Oxley's character; the gin is designed around the bright quality of those citrus oils rather than a heavy or sugary fruit impression.
Oxley's own serving guidance points to a Gimlet or a Martini. For the featured Gimlet, shake 5 cl gin with 2.5 cl fresh lime juice and 1.5 cl simple syrup over ice, then fine-strain into a chilled coupe. A thin lime wheel and a small twist of lemon peel provide a restrained garnish. The lime gives the citrus-led gin a crisp edge, while the small amount of syrup rounds the acidity without turning the drink sweet. No tonic is needed in this classic short cocktail; serve it immediately while cold and aromatic.
