Eleven botanicals, led by domestic lemon, define THE HERBALIST YASO GIN LEMON, bottled at 45% ABV by Echigo Yakuso.
Citrus · Spicy · Herbal
The producer describes a clear lemon aroma with a fresh, herbal character. On the palate, lemon bitterness and spice meet the gentle sweetness of juniper. That combination gives the gin more shape than a simple citrus infusionInfusionFruit or plants are steeped in the spirit to release their flavour. Done after distillation, infusion often adds colour too, and the gin can no longer be called London Dry.Glossary: the lemon leads, while coriander, caraway, clove and cardamom provide warmth, and thyme and the other plant ingredients support the herbal side. The result is designed to remain refreshing and easy to drink, with enough bitterness and spice to keep the citrus from feeling sugary.
The YASO production background begins with Echigo Yakuso's fermentation work. The company makes enzyme products from wild plants and uses alcohol arising from that process as a base for its spirits, which are distilled again with botanicals. For GIN LEMON, the producer identifies a recipe of eleven botanicals built around Japanese lemons. This combination of a citrus-focused recipe and a plant-derived base is part of the gin's identity.
Echigo Yakuso recommends both gin and tonic and gin soda. For the Perfect ServePerfect serveThe way the producer recommends serving the gin (glass, tonic, ratio, garnish) to show it at its best.Glossary, fill a clear glass with ice, pour 5 cl of gin and 10 cl of Fentimans Oriental Yuzu Tonic, stir gently once and add a fresh lemon twistTwistA strip of peel twisted over the glass to release its oils, then dropped into the drink.Glossary; the yuzu tonic makes the citrus feel fuller, while soda gives a drier, particularly food-friendly drink. Additional sweet fruit is unnecessary. The 45% strength also gives the gin enough presence for simple citrus cocktails. Launched in September 2023 and discontinued at the end of 2024, it remains a distinctive chapter of the YASO range.
