Patient Wolf Pink Lake Gin

Distilled Gin · 43 % ABV · AU

Patient Wolf filters its Pink Lake Gin through Mount Zero Pink Lake Salt, a process the Melbourne distillery describes as a world first. The gin draws on the landscape of Australia's pink salt lakes and its strength is 43% ABV. Its botanicals are juniper, coriander, sarsaparilla root, hibiscus flower, angelica root, Tasmanian pepperberry, lavender and orange.

Citrus · Dry · Spicy · Floral

Zesty orange, earthy spice and fresh juniperJuniperThe one compulsory botanical: gin must taste predominantly of juniper. Its "berry" is really a small conifer cone, resinous and peppery.Glossary make up the aroma. On the palate, a light salinity comes first, then floral notes from the hibiscus and lavender and a savoury depth from the sarsaparilla and angelica. The finish is piney, spicy and savoury, with the pepperberry adding warmth. The texture is dry and slightly mouth-coating, with a hint of lake salt that makes the gin feel fuller than its botanical list might suggest. Patient Wolf calls it a textural, savoury gin made for the perfect pink MartiniDry MartiniGin and a little dry vermouth, stirred over ice and served in a well-chilled stemmed glass, with an olive or a twist.Glossary. Hibiscus adds a tart, red-fruit note, and sarsaparilla a slightly woody depth.

The distillery recommends it first as a Martini with a splash of dry vermouthVermouthAn aromatised, fortified wine flavoured with herbs and barks; its name comes from the German Wermut, wormwood. Dry vermouth goes into a Martini, sweet red into a Negroni.Glossary and, if you like, olives, where the salt and savoury notes come into their own. It is equally at home in a gin and tonic with orange and olives, and in the Pink Lake Spritz, which combines the gin with sparkling wine and dry ginger ale. The saline edge also makes it a natural partner for oysters and salty snacks.

For a gin and tonic, pour 4 cl of Pink Lake Gin over ice, add 10 cl of chilled Franklin & Sons Rosemary & Black Olive Tonic Water and stir gently. Garnish with a green olive and a pink grapefruit twistTwistA strip of peel twisted over the glass to release its oils, then dropped into the drink.Glossary. The olive tonic underlines the savoury side, and the grapefruit lifts the orange on the nose.
