Distillery team member Tash created Grandpa's Garden Gin as a tribute to her grandfather, Dean; the first limited Australian batch is bottled at 40% ABV. Its named ingredients bring together rhubarb, blackberry jam, finger lime, lemon myrtle, Tasmanian pepper berry and juniper. The recipe has a personal origin, but its flavour direction is specific: dark berry fruit and rhubarb meet the fresh citrus of finger lime and the aromatic lift of lemon myrtle.
Citrus · Limited Edition · Spicy · Fruity
Blackberry jam gives the profile a deep, ripe-fruit centre, while rhubarb brings a sharper edge that prevents the berry note from feeling flat. Finger lime adds a bright citrus accent; lemon myrtle contributes a fragrant lemon character. Tasmanian pepper berry offers a warm, gently spiced counterpoint, and juniper supplies the dry, resinous outline expected of gin. The name evokes a garden, but the recipe is best understood through these actual botanicals and their contrast of fruit, citrus, spice and juniper.
The nose opens with blackberry and rhubarb, then moves toward lemony herbs and a light pepper note.
The palate is fruit-led, with jammy berry tones balanced by the tart quality of rhubarb and the freshness of finger lime. Lemon myrtle brightens the middle, while Tasmanian pepper berry adds warmth toward the finish. Juniper keeps the overall impression dry enough to remain recognisably gin. At 40% ABV, the profile is well suited to a long drink, though a small neat pour will show the layered fruit and spice before dilution.
A restrained gin and tonic works well: pour 4.5 cl over clear ice, add 12 cl Fever-Tree Indian Tonic Water, and garnish with one blackberry and a small piece of finger lime. The tonic keeps the drink crisp and lets the fruit remain distinct; the garnish echoes ingredients named by the distillery without adding unnecessary sweetness. Granddad Jack's also suggests a simple pour over ice topped with Solo and fresh blackberry, or a Garden Spritz. For the tonic version, avoid berry syrup and keep the garnish to a few pieces so the glass remains refreshing rather than dessert-like.
