Sipsmith Raffles 1915 Gin

Distilled Gin · 43 % ABV · GB

A century after the Singapore Sling first appeared at Raffles Hotel, Sipsmith joined the hotel to create this gin. Sipsmith distilled the gin in London, combining the house's classic gin botanicals with a set of ingredients chosen for a drink rooted in Singapore. The producer names jasmine flowers, fresh pomelo peel, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaf, nutmeg and cardamom. At 43% ABV, it is designed to bring aromatic detail to the Sling while remaining versatile beyond that one recipe.

Citrus · Spicy · Floral

Jasmine gives the nose a soft floral edge, while pomelo and kaffir lime bring a brighter citrus character than ordinary lemon peel. Lemongrass adds a fresh, green aroma; cardamom and nutmeg provide warmth behind it. Juniper remains the structural note that ties these ingredients back to gin. Sipsmith's tasting notes also point to baked apple, coriander, lemongrass, cardamom and grapefruit, followed by a dry, spicy palate with lime, pine and a nutty roundness.

The natural match is the Singapore Sling. Shake 3.5 cl gin with 2 cl cherry liqueur, 1.5 cl Benedictine, two dashes of Angostura, 5 cl pineapple juice and 2.5 cl lime juice. Strain into a tall glass filled with ice, then add a pineapple wedge and cocktail cherry; a lemon twist is another garnish published by the producer. The fruit softens the spices, while lime keeps the long drink fresh.

Outside the Sling, Raffles 1915 can add floral citrus and spice to a Martini-style drink or a simple gin and tonic. Its story is unusually specific: a London-distilled gin made in collaboration with a Singapore hotel and linked to a named 1915 cocktail. In the Sling, the ingredients have a clear purpose rather than serving as decoration. The result is aromatic but dry enough to keep the cocktail balanced, with citrus, spice and juniper still easy to distinguish.
