Farmer's Wife Distillery created Stroud Bicentenary Gin to commemorate 200 years of the Australian town of Stroud. The 42% gin connects the anniversary to local produce and the distillery's regional setting, giving this release a clear sense of place rather than relying on an abstract commemorative label.
Limited Edition · Floral · Fruity
The botanicals include juniper, chamomile and orchard quince, with sugarbag honey also associated with the distillery's local ingredients. Quince brings a fragrant orchard-fruit character, while chamomile softens the aromatic profile with a gentle floral note. Juniper gives the gin its dry backbone. The honey supports the recipe without bringing a liqueur-like sweetness.
The result combines orchard fruit with a light floral quality and the familiar resinous note of juniper. A 42% bottling keeps the botanicals present in a long drink, while a measured pour allows the quince and chamomile to remain distinct. The bicentenary gives the gin its occasion and context; the glass itself is led by the ingredients rather than by the anniversary story.
Serve 5 cl over clear ice with 12 cl of Indian tonic. Add a thin slice of quince and a small pinch of chamomile flowers directly to the drink. The restrained garnish follows the orchard and floral notes without making the drink perfumed. A neutral tonic keeps the juniper visible and lets the fruit develop as the ice slowly opens the drink.
The commemorative detail matters because it ties the gin to a specific town and anniversary, while the orchard ingredients give the recipe a flavour of its own. Quince and chamomile make a more restrained pairing than a sweet fruit garnish. Keep the tonic dry and the floral addition small so the juniper remains easy to recognise.
