Sanctvm combines arabica coffee, cacao nibs and fresh Bahia orange peel with juniper and coriander in Alma, a Brazilian dry gin distilled by hand in Espírito Santo. Launched in August 2024, it is made in small batches in copper stills and bottled at 45% ABV in a 75 cl frosted bottle, illustrated in blue with a heron, coffee cherries, flowers and leaves. Alma means soul in Portuguese, and the label is covered with the plants and birds of the region.
Citrus · Woody · Spicy · Floral
The full recipe adds ginger, black pepper, hibiscus, lavender and orange leaf, several of them grown in the state of Espírito Santo, which is known for its coffee and cacao. The combination is deliberately broad: roasted notes from coffee and cacao, floral notes from hibiscus and lavender, citrus from the orange peel and leaf, and warmth from ginger and pepper. The gin has won gold medals for tasting and bottle design at the SIP Awards and silver medals at the London Spirits Competition in 2025 and 2026.
The 2026 London Spirits Competition panel described aromas of mango and peach with nutty notes, leading to a dry, smooth palate of coffee, oak, almond and floral nuances and a sweet pomelo finish. The coffee and cacao give depth without sweetness, and the orange keeps the profile bright. Taste it neat first: the roasted side is easier to notice before any mixer, and the floral notes of hibiscus and lavender come through as it warms.
In a gin and tonic, use large ice and a chilled Indian tonic, with a narrow twist of orange in the glass. A few coffee beans on the side add an aromatic cue without flavouring the drink. Its roasted character also suits a dry Martini or a stirred Negroni variation, where coffee and orange meet the bitterness of the aperitif.
