At 92 Alpha Street in Cambridge, a town in New Zealand's Waikato region, The Cambridge Distillery Co. opened its tasting room in 2024, and this gin carries the address as its name. The distillery is run by James Coote, a Rowing New Zealand coach, and Will Rendell, a banker, and it describes Alpha Street as its tribute to its roots. The frosted 70 cl bottle, decorated with copper botanical drawings, contains the gin at 45% ABV. Cambridge, known as the town of trees and champions, is also home to New Zealand's national rowing centre at nearby Lake Karapiro.

The recipe is short: juniper, star anise, orange and myrrh gum. After distillation the gin rests for thirty days so the flavours can settle and fully express themselves, then it is brought to strength with water drawn from deep beneath Cambridge. The distillery calls it the little black dress of gins, a smooth and seductive blend designed to be rich, aromatic and quietly intriguing. Its other gins favour local botanicals, such as grapefruit picked in the streets of Cambridge and Douglas fir from Lake Te Koo Utu.
Myrrh gum is the unusual element. Better known as an ancient resin used in incense, it brings a warm, slightly bitter and balsamic note that deepens the juniper. Star anise adds a sweet, liquorice-like spice, while orange lifts the nose and keeps the gin from feeling heavy. At 45% ABV the texture is full, and a splash of water opens up the citrus.
The distillery suggests pairing it with tonic or using it as the base for cocktails. With tonic, an orange twist and a single star anise pod echo two of the botanicals. Its resinous depth also suits a Negroni or a Martinez, where the myrrh and anise meet vermouth and bitters.
