Its violet colour shifts when the gin meets a mixer, but Moonlight is more than a visual effect. This 42% Prohibition Liquor Co. bottling builds on red juniper with cold-distilled Pink Lady apple and native blood lime. The recipe behind this 500 ml bottle is unusually broad, yet the classic juniper base keeps it recognisable as gin rather than a floral liqueur.
Citrus · Spicy · Floral · Fruity
Black goji berry, hibiscus flower, lilac and butterfly pea flower shape the floral-fruit side of the profile. Coriander seed and orris root frame the blend, while sandalwood nut adds texture. Lemon and grapefruit peel add a drier citrus edge, while clove brings a restrained spice. Honeybush extends the finish. Those botanicals give the colour-changing spirit a clear structure: fruit and flowers first, then citrus, spice and a more persistent juniper note.
The distillery's Midnight Mule is a natural way to taste that progression. It combines 6 cl gin, 1.5 cl lime juice and 1 cl sugar syrup, built over ice and topped with dry ginger ale. The ginger's warmth meets the clove, while lime gives the fruit and florals a sharper outline. The violet hue becomes especially visible as the mixer is added, without needing an artificial-looking garnish or extra colouring.
Use a stemless glass with clear ice, then add the lime and a lemon-scented gum leaf inside the drink; set a matching lime wheel and leaf beside the glass. Build the gin, lime juice and syrup in the glass before topping with dry ginger ale, then stir once. The garnish follows the maker's own suggested leaf and adds a fresh aroma at the rim. Pour the ginger ale gradually so the colour change remains visible and the botanical details are not lost beneath excessive dilution.
