A savoury edge sets this 42% Bootleg Series release apart from a conventional citrus-led gin. Prohibition Liquor Co. builds it around juniper and vine-ripened tomato, then vapour-distils basil and proofs the spirit with clarified tomato water. Mint and pistachio add freshness and texture; olive oil and sea salt give the profile a subtle briny side. The 500 ml bottle is designed for cocktails with enough character to meet those savoury notes.

The botanical list also includes black pepper, angelica root and coriander seed. Pepper gives the tomato and basil a dry lift, while angelica and coriander keep the familiar gin structure in view. Together they prevent the savoury ingredients from reading like a separate tomato drink. The basil's green aroma is clear, but the tomato remains the central flavour, with mint bringing a cooler note and pistachio a rounded, lightly nutty impression.
Clarified tomato water is part of the production, not an instruction to add tomato juice to the glass. That distinction matters: the finished drink can remain clear and balanced while carrying a recognisable tomato character. A little dilution opens the herbs and pepper; excessive sweetness would pull the balance away from the dry, savoury direction. It is a natural fit for a Red Snapper or a martini, both mentioned by the distillery.
For an easy highball, add 4 cl gin to a copa filled with large ice and top with 10 cl chilled Indian tonic. Put a small tomato wedge and a basil leaf in the drink, then set an identical pair on a small plate beside the glass. A light crack of black pepper on the tomato is enough; avoid adding salt directly to the drink. The result keeps the tomato, green herbs and juniper in balance and offers a straightforward first taste before moving on to the producer's more savoury cocktail suggestions.
