Best enjoyed with Fever-Tree Indian Tonic Water, garnished with Lemon twist and Saffron threads.
See the perfect serveJaisalmer Gold takes the Indian distillery's dry gin in a different direction with saffron. The gold-coloured 50 cl bottle contains a spirit at 43% ABV, and the house describes a silk filtration step for this edition. Saffron is more than a visual cue: its warm floral aroma sits alongside juniper and the familiar gin botanicals identified in competition tasting notes, including coriander, orris and liquorice. This is a distinct release from Jaisalmer Indian Craft Gin, not simply the same liquid in a new bottle.
The palate begins with a clear juniper line before the spice grows warmer. Orris gives a powdery floral impression, coriander adds a lighter lift and liquorice extends the finish. Saffron is best understood as a small accent running through these flavours; loading the glass with more spice would hide its delicacy. The gin can be tried neat in a small measure to find that balance. A little water then gives the floral side room without removing the dry structure underneath.
In a gin and tonic, lemon peel is enough citrus to keep the drink lively. Add two saffron threads rather than a large pinch, and keep the Indian tonic cold and restrained. Place spare lemon peel and saffron beside the glass as a quiet reminder of the recipe. Large ice slows dilution and lets the juniper remain present as the drink warms. Jaisalmer Gold is most interesting when the saffron is recognisable but does not become the only thing one tastes. The lemon gives the warmer middle of the palate a clean finish without imposing another spice.
