Gin In A Tin Gin No 1 Orange Peel Nutmeg & Allspice Description

Number one in a collection that now counts twenty gins, Gin In A Tin No.1 brings together orange peel, nutmeg and allspice. Like every gin in the range, it is a 100% natural London Dry Gin at 40% ABV, blended with seasonal botanicals and produced in small Cotswolds batches, then packed in a block-coloured 50 cl tin designed to be collected and styled to look like a book.

This first recipe is inspired by traditional winter flavours. Bright orange and juniper lead on the nose and palate, warm winter spices follow, and delicate hints of star anise appear on the finish. The gin contains no artificial ingredients and no added sugars or sweeteners, so the sense of warmth comes from the spices rather than from sweetness.

Each spice plays a distinct part. Orange peel carries fragrant oils and a light bitterness; nutmeg brings a rounded, woody warmth; allspice, whose aroma recalls clove, cinnamon and pepper together, fills the middle; and star anise leaves a cool, liquorice-like trace at the end. Juniper keeps all of them in a dry frame, so the result reads like a spiced London Dry rather than a Christmas liqueur.

Retailers suggest a classic G&T made with a robust tonic such as Fever-Tree and a slice of orange. An Indian tonic has the bitterness to stand up to the spices, and the orange slice repeats the fruit that opens the gin. The numbered range explores many other combinations, such as lemon peel, coriander and cardamom in No.2 or lemon, willow and vetiver in No.19, but No.1 remains the wintry starting point of the collection.
