Red rose petalsPink grapefruit, pomegranate and red rose petals give GŴYR Rhamanta a vivid aromatic direction, while angelica, coriander and orris preserve the structure of a London Dry. The Gower Gin Company bottles this Welsh recipe at 43% ABV and adds locally foraged wild fennel to its botanical list.
The nose begins with grapefruit oil and a clean floral note. Pomegranate contributes a sharper fruit accent rather than obvious sweetness, and rose petals soften its edges. Beneath them, coriander adds lift, angelica supplies dryness and orris binds the brighter aromas into a more composed whole.
In the mouth, citrus and red fruit arrive together before the fennel introduces a green, lightly aniseed nuance. Juniper remains present throughout, giving the palate a firm line and a dry finish. The result feels colourful without becoming diffuse, with each botanical serving a clear role.
Rhamanta first appeared as Craft Gin Club's Gin of the Month in February 2020. It later received silver at the 2020 London Spirits Competition. Those milestones fit a recipe designed to be distinctive at first smell while retaining enough classic structure for a straightforward long drink.
Elderflower tonic highlights the floral side, but it should be used with restraint. Pink grapefruit peel sharpens the drink and red rose petals echo the recipe. A small amount of each is enough to keep the drink precise rather than decorative. Pomegranate adds a tart fruit accent beneath the flowers, and wild fennel gives the finish a discreet herbal lift.
