Shed 1 Gin Cuckold's Revenge Description

Cuckold's Revenge was the first gin released by Shed One Distillery in 2016. Its theatrical name recalls Andy Arnold-Bennett playing the deceived Master Ford in The Merry Wives of Windsor, but the liquid itself is direct and carefully proportioned. A complete compound gin is prepared and filtered before redistillation in a traditional pot still. Eight botanicals shape the recipe: juniper, orange and lemon zest, green cardamom, coriander, star anise, nutmeg and cinnamon. Citrus opens the aroma, followed by cardamom and coriander. Anise, nutmeg and cinnamon appear gradually rather than forming a heavy festive block, and juniper returns across the dry finish. Great Taste awarded two stars, while The Gin Guide selected it as its 2021 Contemporary Gin winner above 42% vol. The result combines a lively first impression with enough spice for slow tasting.

Redistilling a filtered compound base allows the eight ingredients to meet before the final pass. That method helps explain the integrated spice: cardamom and coriander feel woven into citrus, while anise, nutmeg and cinnamon emerge later instead of competing at the nose. The technique gives a coherent progression to a recipe that could otherwise feel crowded.

A simple tonic keeps the layered spice readable. Measure 4 cl of gin, then lengthen it with 10 cl of light Indian tonic over ice, twist a broad orange peel above the surface and place it among the cubes with three juniper berries. Arrange another peel and a few berries beside the copa. The distillery also recommends enjoying the gin without garnish.

The second distillation integrates the eight botanicals, joining cardamom and coriander to the peels before anise, nutmeg and cinnamon emerge in sequence.
