Brecon Rose Petal Gin Description

Penderyn makes Brecon Rose Petal Gin from its Special Reserve Gin, adding rose and red-fruit notes to the dry Welsh base. Created by the distillery's women-led distilling team under Laura Davies, it begins with Brecon Special Reserve Gin and is bottled at 37.5% ABV. Rose petal and juniper lead the recipe, while the finished gin develops a wider tasting profile of strawberry, tart raspberry, citrus, liquorice, angelica, cinnamon and coriander. Its floral and fruity notes rest on the recognisable dry backbone of the Brecon base gin.

Rose petal leads the aroma, fresh and softly fragrant rather than powdery. Strawberry gives the bouquet a ripe red-fruit roundness, while raspberry introduces a brighter, more acidic edge. Juniper remains visible through the centre with a clean pine note. Hints of coriander and cinnamon add warmth beneath the flowers, and citrus lifts the upper register. The different parts arrive in layers, allowing the rose to define the gin without flattening the fruit and spice around it.

On the palate, the first impression is smooth and floral, followed by strawberry and a sharper raspberry-like freshness. Liquorice suggests roundness, then angelica, coriander and juniper restore a drier botanical line. Cinnamon contributes gentle warmth without becoming sweet. Citrus keeps the finish lively and prevents the rose from lingering too heavily. The modest bottling strength makes the texture accessible, but the Brecon base supplies enough structure for tonic, ice and an aromatic garnish.

For the Perfect Serve, follow Penderyn's own pairing direction: fill a balloon glass with clear ice, add 4 cl of Brecon Rose Petal Gin and 10 cl of Fever-Tree Naturally Light Tonic Water. Place a thin pink grapefruit slice and two fresh mint leaves in the glass, then repeat both on a small plate beside it. Grapefruit follows the tart fruit and citrus notes, mint gives the rose a fresh green frame, and the light tonic keeps the finish clean.

Bruise the mint only very lightly so it frames the rose instead of covering it.
