Eugin Numero 7 Description

Numero 7 opens Eugin Distilleria Indipendente's range with a London Dry bottled at 43.2% ABV. Its recipe is deliberately described in broad strokes: juniper and angelica provide the structure, joined by citrus and aromatic herbs whose individual identities remain private. The gin is distilled in small batches, with part of the botanical load infused in the still and the more delicate ingredients placed in a vapour basket. This split method allows robust roots and bright top notes to be handled differently during the same distillation.

The nose begins with clear juniper, then opens toward lemon-like peel and fresh green herbs. Angelica gives the palate an earthy dryness and helps the citrus retain definition rather than becoming soft or sweet. The unpublished herbs add lift and complexity, but the bottle does not need an invented list to be understood. Its character lies in the contrast between a firm, resinous base and a cleaner aromatic layer captured by the vapour infusion.

On the palate, the first impression is dry and precise. Pine and root notes establish the line, citrus oils brighten the middle, and the herbs leave a gently spicy freshness through the finish. At 43.2%, Numero 7 has enough body to taste neat while remaining agile in classic cocktails. A small sample without ice shows the distillation clearly; a few drops of water then release more zest and soften the earthy edge of angelica.

For a simple Gin Tonic, fill a balloon glass with clear ice, add 4 cl of Eugin Numero 7 and 10 cl of Fever-Tree Indian Tonic Water, then stir once. Place a narrow lemon peel and three juniper berries in the glass, with a second peel and a few berries on a small dish beside it. The neutral tonic and restrained garnish preserve the published balance of juniper, citrus, roots and herbs.
