Unsweetened dried cherryGin Siderit Reserve Sherry Cask rests for forty-two months in Spanish white-oak casks previously used for sherry. Only four 225-litre barrels are filled each year, producing roughly 1,200 numbered bottles. The first vintage began in 2014 and was bottled in 2017. This 43% reserve is presented in 70 cl with an intense caramel-amber colour that immediately distinguishes it from an unaged gin.
The producer describes sweet, soft wood on the nose and a palate that brings together juniper, sherry and oak. The cask contributes dried-fruit depth, polished wood and a rounded caramel tone, while juniper keeps the spirit connected to gin rather than allowing the maturation to dominate completely. The full botanical recipe is not published for this edition, so its identity should be explained through the documented cask and tasting notes rather than an inherited ingredient list.
Forty-two months is a substantial rest for gin. Time allows the sherry-seasoned oak to influence colour, texture and length, producing a slower progression than the sharper attack of a young London Dry. Amber fruit and soft sweetness appear first, oak builds through the centre, and juniper returns on the finish with a drier edge. The result will appeal especially to drinkers who enjoy cask-aged spirits but still want a clear botanical backbone.
Serve 4 cl in a small tumbler over one large clear cube. Add a wide orange peel and one unsweetened dried cherry to the glass, then present a second peel and dried cherry on a dish beside it. No tonic is used. Orange oil and tart dried fruit complement the sherry-cask profile while the slow dilution preserves the balance between juniper, mature oak and the softer caramel notes.
