Gold Dirt Rocky Mountain Gin Description

Rocky Mountain Gin favours floral notes and moderate sweetness while keeping a dry botanical frame. Gold Dirt Distillery produces it in Rollinsville, Colorado, and bottles it at 40% ABV. Its identity comes from plants native to the surrounding Rocky Mountain wilderness, although the distillery does not publish their individual names. That restraint is important: the gin can be described accurately without assigning specific local herbs to the recipe.

The aroma is broad and floral, with a soft herbal depth beneath it. Juniper is present as the essential gin structure rather than as an aggressive pine note. The unnamed mountain botanicals give the profile a sense of place through freshness, gentle earthiness and aromatic complexity, but no single plant can responsibly be isolated. Compared with a strict London Dry, the palate is rounder and slightly sweeter, yet it remains a distilled gin rather than a fruit liqueur.

The first sip is smooth and fragrant. Floral tones spread across the middle, followed by dry herbs and a measured resinous note. Sweetness softens the edges but does not hide the spirit's botanical character. The finish is warm, rounded and persistent, with enough dryness to invite another taste. Its combination of fragrance and weight also explains why the distillery uses it in short, stirred drinks rather than limiting it to tonic.

Serve it as the distillery's gin Old Fashioned. Place half an orange wheel in a rocks glass and press it very lightly with several dashes of aromatic bitters and orange bitters. Add 7.5 cl of Rocky Mountain Gin, 1 to 2 cl of simple syrup according to taste, and a large ice cube. Stir until chilled and finish with one Luxardo cherry. The orange and bitters give definition to the gin's floral sweetness without inventing botanical notes that are not published.

Start with 1 cl of syrup and adjust only if needed. The drink should frame the floral gin, not turn it into a sweet cocktail.
