Bluff London Dry Gin Description

Bluff London Dry Gin is distilled at the southern tip of New Zealand, facing the Foveaux Strait, with a recipe that remains firmly anchored in classic gin. North Macedonian juniper provides the piney backbone, joined by Indian coriander, liquorice root, orris root, Thai lemongrass and Nigerian hibiscus. At 45% ABV, the gin has the concentration expected of a traditional London Dry, while its distinctive botanicals add floral, citrus and lightly savoury details. Even the turquoise, buoy-shaped bottle reflects Bluff's maritime identity and the exposed coastline surrounding the distillery.

Juniper arrives first on the nose, clean and resinous, before coriander adds a lively citrus spice. Lemongrass brightens the opening with a fine, zesty note rather than an overtly tropical flavour. Hibiscus follows more quietly, bringing a delicate floral and berry-like nuance with a touch of tartness. On the palate, liquorice and orris bind these aromas together and soften the texture, while the juniper keeps the centre dry. A subtle saline impression appears in the background and leads into a crisp, savoury finish.

The balance is confident and uncluttered. Each botanical has a clear purpose, yet none distracts from the gin's traditional structure. The firmer 45% strength gives the citrus and roots enough presence for a Martini or Negroni, while the hibiscus and lemongrass remain restrained enough for a simple gin and tonic. This is a London Dry with a genuine sense of place: direct, aromatic and shaped by the contrast between bright botanicals and the rugged southern coast.

For the GinToLove Perfect Serve, fill a chilled balloon glass with clear ice, pour 4 cl of Bluff London Dry Gin and add 10 cl of Fever-Tree Indian Tonic Water. Stir gently, then finish with lemon peel and a very fine strip of lemongrass. The lemon lifts the coriander and juniper, while the lemongrass echoes the recipe without turning the drink grassy. Keep the garnish precise and the tonic measured so the dry, faintly saline finish remains clearly defined.

The distillery recommends lemon or lime in a gin and tonic; this serve chooses lemon and keeps the lemongrass restrained to echo the botanical recipe. Avoid crushing the garnish, so the dry juniper, coriander, liquorice and savoury finish remain more prominent than the citrus.
