Best enjoyed with Fever-Tree Lemon Tonic Water, garnished with Lemon peel and Sloe berries.
See the perfect serveSloe Boat Gin is made in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, by steeping wild-harvested sloe berries for six months in a bespoke gin distilled by Boatyard. Each bottle uses 420 grams of fruit before the liquid is gently sweetened with sustainably sourced sugar. Bottled at 29.8% ABV, it belongs unmistakably to the sloe gin family, yet its character is shaped as much by the tartness of the fruit and the dry presence of juniper as by sweetness.
The aroma brings together ripe plum, dark berry fruit and the familiar almond-like note associated with sloe stones. On the palate, the first impression is generous and rounded, but the fruit quickly reveals a sharper side: cassis-like depth, lively acidity and a faint bitterness give the gin definition. Juniper remains perceptible beneath the berries and prevents the texture from becoming heavy. The finish is soft and warming, with plum, almond and dry botanical notes lingering after the sweeter fruit has faded.
At 29.8% ABV, Sloe Boat is naturally gentler than a London Dry and invites a different style of service. It can be poured neat after dinner, served over one large cube of ice, or used in cocktails that benefit from both fruit and acidity. Boatyard also proposes the classic Charlie Chaplin, where sloe gin meets apricot brandy and fresh lime juice. In each case, modest dilution preserves the tension between ripe fruit, tart sloe and juniper.
For the GinToLove Perfect Serve, fill a chilled balloon glass with clear ice, pour 4 cl of Sloe Boat Gin and add 10 cl of Fever-Tree Lemon Tonic Water. Stir gently, then garnish with a fine lemon peel and a few sloe berries. Lemon tonic brightens the dark fruit and keeps the drink refreshing, while the restrained garnish leaves the plum and juniper clearly visible. A standard Indian tonic with a lime wedge offers a drier alternative closer to Boatyard's own long-serve suggestion.
