ohoro GIN Standard Description

Sweet gale and Japanese mint bring a distinctly Hokkaido freshness to ohoro GIN Standard, before its wide citrus range opens out. Sweet gale and Japanese mint form the Hokkaido core of the recipe, surrounded by classic gin botanicals and a broad citrus register. Juniper, coriander, angelica, orris and liquorice provide the frame; chamomile softens the edges; lemon, orange, yuzu, lime and grapefruit bring a layered brightness.

At 47% ABV, the gin has a confident texture. The higher strength matters because the aromatic side is delicate rather than loud. The first impression is clean and lifted, with fresh citrus and mint-like coolness, followed by a gentle herbal depth from sweet gale. Yuzu gives the profile a Japanese accent without dominating the other fruits. The palate stays dry and precise, with juniper present beneath the citrus and a soft root-and-spice foundation that keeps the finish from becoming thin.

The water used for ohoro is part of its identity too: Soft underground water from the Niseko Annupuri area completes the recipe. In the glass, that detail translates less as a flavour than as a polished mouthfeel. The gin feels clear, smooth and controlled, with a mountain-fresh character that suits its origin. It is not a sweet citrus gin; it is a dry, carefully balanced Japanese gin where citrus, herbs and texture move together.

The Perfect Serve stays bright and uncomplicated. A premium Indian tonic, plenty of clear ice, yuzu peel and a small sprig of fresh mint echo the recipe and keep the drink crisp. The serve draws out the citrus aroma first, then lets the mint and the herbal notes of sweet gale appear on the finish. It also has enough structure for a Martini, especially with a restrained citrus garnish.

A light tonic pour keeps the mountain-fresh texture intact. The mint should perfume the rim, not dominate the citrus.
