Ostgota Unicorn Description

Ostgota Unicorn is radical because it refuses the usual botanical parade. The official recipe uses only two botanicals: juniper and coriander seed. Even the name is built from that idea, with JuniCorn combining juniper and coriander. Bottled at 40% ABV in a 50 cl format, this is a dry gin that makes its minimalism the whole point rather than a limitation.

The nose is direct: pine-like juniper, dry seed spice and a clean citrus impression from coriander. There is no fruit, flower or sweet botanical to soften the message. On the palate, juniper gives the backbone and coriander brings lift, spice and a slight lemony edge. The texture is lean and clear. The finish is dry, short-to-medium in weight, and useful precisely because there are no competing flavours hiding the gin’s construction.

A gin like this should be served with discipline. Fever-Tree Indian Tonic Water is the safest tonic because it supports juniper and quinine bitterness without bringing an unrelated flavour. Use plenty of ice, a measured tonic ratio and a lemon peel twist. Coriander seed can be a nice aromatic cue on the side of the glass, but the drink should stay visually simple. In cocktails, Unicorn is suited to a dry Martini or a Gimlet where the base spirit needs to be readable.

The interest of Ostgota Unicorn is educational as much as sensory. It shows how much of gin can be expressed by two materials when they are used clearly. Juniper gives identity, coriander gives movement, and the absence of extra botanicals makes the tasting unusually transparent.

The serve stays minimal like the gin. Lemon brightens coriander without adding a new dominant botanical.
