Height of Arrows Homeland is the Scottish-juniper variation within Holyrood Distillery’s minimalist gin project. The family idea remains the same as the original Height of Arrows: juniper at the centre, supported by sea salt and beeswax. Homeland changes the emphasis by using Scottish juniper and bottling at 46% ABV, which gives the gin more depth and a more vivid herbal line while staying close to the range’s stripped-back philosophy.

The aroma is greener and more rugged than the standard bottling. Scottish juniper brings pine, resin and a slightly wild herbal quality, while sea salt sharpens the edges without becoming a salty flavour in itself. Beeswax shapes the palate through texture. It creates a rounded, polished feel that makes the higher strength easier to read, letting the herbal and spicy details unfold rather than hit all at once. The finish is dry, bright and persistent.

For a gin and tonic, Homeland deserves the same restraint as the rest of the range. Fever-Tree Mediterranean Tonic Water is useful because it has enough herbal lift to support the gin without covering its juniper. A lemon peel twist adds clarity, and a few juniper berries can underline the central botanical when the glass needs a stronger visual cue. The serve should be cold, uncluttered and deliberately simple.

Homeland is not about adding exotic flavour. Its interest comes from narrowing the recipe and paying attention to origin, texture and concentration. It suits drinkers who want to compare how juniper behaves when the supporting botanicals are almost removed from the conversation. The gin is dry and focused, but the beeswax gives enough weight to keep it from feeling severe.
