Garnish
Orange SliceThe Botanist Cask Aged Gin is a 46% ABV Islay gin matured for more than three years in cask. That longer resting time gives it a deeper colour and a more settled, contemplative character than the dry original. The distillery's botanical base remains recognisable, but oak and time bring toasted grain, dried fruit and a measured sweetness of wood.
The nose joins juniper and citrus with oak, dried fruit and warm cereal notes. It is more rounded than the fresh Islay Dry Gin, yet the local herbs still give the aromatics a green, fragrant edge. The wood does not erase the botanicals; it gathers them into a more mature and textured profile.
On the palate, toasted oats, citrus peel and aromatic juniper meet a gentle oak richness. The flavour has weight, but its finish stays dry enough to preserve the identity of gin. Dried fruit and warming spice appear gradually, especially after a little air or a small amount of water from melting ice.
Serve it neat, or on one large cube with a twist of orange. The simple garnish gives the cask-aged citrus a lift and keeps the glass focused. It can also replace a lighter aged spirit in contemplative stirred cocktails, though a restrained recipe is best for keeping its botanical detail clear.
This is the most patient side of The Botanist range: an Islay gin shaped by extended cask time, where juniper, island plants and oak share the glass without losing their individual roles. Give it a moment in the glass before tasting: the warmth of the cask, citrus and island herbs become more clearly defined as the aromas open.
