Batch 1840 Oak Gin Description

Batch 1840 Oak Gin is a Belgian oak-aged gin bottled at 43% ABV. It takes the familiar freshness of a dry gin and gives it a short wooden frame, adding warmth, vanilla-like roundness and a discreet whisky-minded echo without losing the botanical centre. The interest is the meeting point: oak deepens the gin, not cover it.

On the nose, juniper and citrus remain present, but the oak brings a softer register of spice, pale wood and gentle sweetness. The palate is rounder than a classic unaged gin, with orange peel, herbs and a light woody grip that stretches the finish. It deserves a careful pour in a long drink, because too much tonic would flatten the barrel note and leave only sweetness behind.

The associated gin and tonic uses a shorter tonic measure for that reason. Pour 5 cl of Batch 1840 Oak Gin over clear ice, add 9 cl of Fever-Tree Indian Tonic Water and garnish with orange peel. Orange connects the citrus side to the oak warmth, while the restrained tonic ratio keeps the aged character visible. It can also work neat over one large ice cube, where the wood and spice open slowly.

Because the gin has been touched by oak, it sits naturally beside whisky drinkers who are curious about gin. It is not a whisky substitute; its value lies in the contrast between botanical freshness, vanilla, spice and wood. The shorter tonic pour is not cosmetic: it lets that contrast survive in the glass.

It gives the bottle a clear reason to sit between classic gin and aged spirits without forcing either identity.

The short ratio preserves the texture brought by oak; orange links citrus, spice and vanilla notes without adding sweetness.
