Moon Gin Classic Description

Moon Gin Classic is a Belgian distilled gin bottled at 44% ABV, created around a lunar theme but built on a recognisable botanical structure. The brand was initially conceived by Matthew Van Noten and Tommy De Mulder, with Moon Gin presented as a citrus-driven Belgian gin touched by a deliberately cosmic production story. Lunar rock dust and moon meteorite belong to that identity, while the flavour itself remains grounded in juniper, citrus peels, herbs, spice and almond.

The gin is made from a grain distillate and double distilled in a copper alambique. Its botanical list brings together juniper, bitter and sweet orange peel, lemon peel, coriander seed, cinnamon, star anise, liquorice, basil, almond, lemongrass, angelica and rosemary. This gives the gin a broader profile than the previous single-ingredient version suggested. Juniper supplies the dry gin frame, the citrus peels bring brightness, coriander and cinnamon add spice, basil and rosemary create a green herbal line, liquorice gives a soft sweet-bitter depth, and almond rounds the palate with a gentle nutty note.

On the nose, Moon Gin Classic opens with fresh citrus and juniper, followed by warmer hints of cinnamon and almond. The herbal side appears through basil and rosemary rather than heavy resin, giving the aromatic profile a clean green lift. On the palate, citrus stays central, with bitter orange, sweet orange and lemon peel keeping the gin fresh and slightly zesty. Coriander, cinnamon and star anise build a moderate spice layer, while liquorice and almond soften the finish without turning the gin into a sweet or liqueur-like spirit. Lemongrass reinforces the citrus freshness, and angelica helps hold the structure together.

The finish is dry enough to remain clearly gin-led, but not austere. It carries citrus peel, light spice, a green herbal echo and a discreet almond roundness. World Gin Awards tasting notes for Moon Gin Classic highlight floral aromas, earthy sweetness, violet and orris-like impressions, sweet notes on the palate and some bitterness on the finish; these notes support a contemporary profile that is more aromatic than a strictly classic London Dry reading.

Moon Gin Classic works best in a gin and tonic when the serve remains simple. A neutral tonic, plenty of cold ice and a citrus zest garnish allow the citrus, herbal and almond details to stay readable. Orange, lemon or lime zest can all work, but the garnish should stay restrained: the gin already carries enough citrus, spice and aromatic material to stand without a heavily flavoured mixer. It can also be used in citrus-led long drinks or a clean Tom Collins style serve, where the juniper, lemon peel and spice remain visible.

Keep the almond above the liquid and avoid cinnamon powder: lemon tightens the drink while almond contributes aroma only.
