Baron D Gin de France Description

Baron D Gin de France is a Charente-produced French gin bottled at 40.4% ABV. Its recipe is unusually fruit-driven while keeping the expected gin foundation: juniper, coriander and angelica support pear, blackcurrant, raspberry, orange, lime, yuzu and macadamia. French spring water from the Charente region completes the composition and helps give the spirit its rounder, polished feel.

Pear is the softening element, bringing a smooth orchard-fruit impression rather than obvious sweetness. Blackcurrant and raspberry add darker fruit and brightness, while orange, lime and yuzu create a layered citrus register. Macadamia gives body, coriander adds a minty-peppery lift and angelica keeps the finish dry. The result is generous but structured, more refined fruit than simple flavoured gin.

The associated gin and tonic highlights both sides of the recipe. Pour 5 cl of Baron D Gin de France over clear ice, add 10 cl of Fever-Tree Indian Tonic Water and garnish with lemon peel plus a few raspberries. Lemon sharpens the citrus line, raspberries echo the fruit without overwhelming the gin, and the tonic brings enough bitterness to keep the finish clean. Avoid sweet tonic here; the recipe already has natural fruit roundness.

Baron D is also a useful bridge between classic gin drinkers and people attracted by fruit-led spirits. It has enough pear and berry charm to feel welcoming, but the citrus, coriander and angelica keep the profile from becoming a liqueur-like drink. In cocktails, it would be better in a French 75 variation than in recipes with additional red-fruit syrup.

The lemon and raspberries follow the recipe's citrus and berry notes. Keep the tonic dry so the pear, yuzu and macadamia detail is not lost.
