Orange PeelHernö Sipping Gin 2026 is a limited Swedish barrel-aged gin released for the fifteenth anniversary of Hernö Gin. Bottled at 44% ABV, the edition comprises 1,603 bottles. It begins with the distillery's organic gin, whose published botanical recipe combines juniper, coriander, lemon peel, cassia, black pepper, lingonberries, meadowsweet and vanilla. For this anniversary release, that gin spends one hundred days in casks previously used by the historic Swedish Cognac house Grönstedts.
The cask maturation gives this gin a different register from Hernö's clear bottlings. Oak adds a light woody frame and brings dried-fruit, orange-peel and gentle spice impressions around the original juniper-and-citrus structure. The base recipe remains important: lemon peel and coriander keep brightness in the profile, cassia and black pepper supply dry spice, while lingonberry, meadowsweet and vanilla contribute their own layers of fruit, flower and softness.
On the nose, juniper is joined by oak, dried fruit and a warm citrus-peel note. The palate retains a recognisable gin line before becoming rounder and more vinous, with notes of raisins, toffee and almond described for the release. At 44% ABV, the texture is full without losing definition. The finish is long and smooth, carrying oak, grape-like sweetness and persistent juniper in a composed, cask-led style.
Hernö Sipping Gin 2026 rewards a short serve. Taste it neat in a small glass or over one large cube before considering a mixer. A restrained tonic and an orange peel can work when a longer drink is wanted, but the proportion should remain short enough to preserve its cask character. It is also well suited to a Martinez-style cocktail, where its oak and dried-fruit notes can meet vermouth without disappearing.
