London Drizzle Gin Description

London Drizzle Gin is a 40% ABV dry gin from James Gin, built around a deliberately earth-led reading of London after warm rain. The producer presents beetroot, lovage and ginger as the signature elements of the recipe, supported by juniper, coriander seed, angelica root, liquorice root, orange peel, cubeb, rosemary, caraway and bay leaf. It is a botanical line-up with familiar gin structure but an unusual, savoury sense of place.

Juniper provides the dry, resinous backbone, while coriander and orange peel bring a brighter aromatic lift. Beetroot contributes an earthy, lightly root-vegetable depth rather than sweetness. Lovage and bay leaf reinforce a green, savoury character, and ginger adds a fresh warming note. Angelica, liquorice, cubeb, rosemary and caraway layer spice, woodland freshness and a faintly peppery edge around those central notes.

On the nose, expect juniper first, followed by damp-garden herbs, orange oil and warm ginger. The palate is dry and rounded: citrus gives the opening definition, then beetroot and lovage make the middle feel earthy and herbal without becoming heavy. Bay, caraway and cubeb lengthen the finish with restrained spice. The profile is distinctive, but it remains recognisably gin-led rather than a novelty flavoured spirit.

For tasting, use a large measure over cold clear ice and choose a straightforward Indian tonic rather than a sweet or strongly perfumed mixer. An orange peel twist and a bay leaf suit the documented orange, herbal and savoury notes. Keep the tonic proportion moderate so that the beetroot and lovage can still be read on the palate. It also rewards a slow sip after a little dilution, when the rosemary, caraway and ginger become more apparent.

Keep the tonic restrained and avoid sweet fruit garnishes. Orange, bay and a clean tonic let the beetroot, lovage, ginger and juniper remain distinct.
