See the perfect serveGunpowder Irish Gin with Italian Fig & Laurel is a special expression from The Shed Distillery in Drumshanbo, County Leitrim. It belongs to the Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin family, a range known for combining Irish distillation with botanicals gathered through a more exploratory, travel-led approach. This edition brings an Italian direction to the established Gunpowder profile through a collaboration associated with mixologist Bruno Vanzan.
The base of the gin remains rooted in the identity of Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin. The original structure is built around twelve botanicals from nine countries, with gunpowder tea providing one of its most recognizable signatures. For this edition, that framework is joined by Italian Viola fig, Italian laurel and Tuscan juniper. These additions do not replace the original character of the gin; they add a warmer, more Mediterranean layer to its citrus, tea and botanical structure.
On the nose, the gin opens with the familiar freshness of Gunpowder Irish Gin: juniper, bright citrus, green tea and aromatic botanicals. The Italian additions then bring a different register. Viola fig adds a soft, ripe fruit tone, while laurel introduces a savory herbal edge. Tuscan juniper reinforces the resinous structure and helps keep the gin dry and clearly anchored in its category.
On the palate, the first impression is rounded but not heavy. Fig gives the mouthfeel a gentle fruit depth, while gunpowder tea brings a green, lightly tannic dryness. Laurel adds a distinctive herbal line, closer to a Mediterranean kitchen herb than to a sweet floral note. Citrus brightness and spice remain present in the background, giving lift and balance. The finish is medium to long, with lingering juniper, tea, fig and laurel, moving between fruit, herbal freshness and dry spice.
At 43% alcohol by volume, Gunpowder Irish Gin with Italian Fig & Laurel has enough structure for a gin and tonic while retaining enough aromatic detail for lighter long drinks. A neutral or Mediterranean tonic is the safest pairing, especially with a restrained lemon garnish or a very small piece of fig. It can also work in highball-style serves with soda, citrus and fresh herbs, where the fig and laurel can remain visible without being overwhelmed.
