E18hteen Gin Description

E18hteen Gin is a London Dry Gin produced in Somerset, England, by E18hteen Distillery. The distillery makes its own base spirit from locally sourced sugar beet, first fermenting and distilling it to create a premium vodka which is then used as the foundation for the gin. This approach places the focus on controlling every stage of production, from the raw agricultural material to the final distillate.

The gin is described by the producer as an apple led expression. The house vodka is redistilled in copper pot alembic stills, using a process of timed maceration with a selection of botanicals that includes hand picked apples, vibrant juniper and a range of citrus peels. The spirit is taken off the still at high strength before being reduced to 42% ABV for bottling. E18hteen Gin is deliberately left non chill filtered, which means that botanical oils remain in suspension and can create a natural cloudiness when the gin is diluted or chilled.

On the nose, E18hteen Gin combines clear juniper and bright citrus zests with notes likened by the producer to apple blossom. Aromas of fresh apple skin sit alongside a gentle spice character that recalls picante anise. The palate continues this profile, with juniper and citrus forming the structure, while the apple element brings a rounded fruit note rather than sweetness. The texture is supported by the residual botanical oils, which contribute to a fuller mouthfeel and a finish described as echoing creamed macadamia.

The finish is medium to long, with citrus and juniper gradually giving way to soft fruit and subtle spice. Because the gin is non chill filtered, a slight haze may appear when it is served with ice or mixed with tonic, reflecting the presence of aromatic compounds rather than a fault. The producer recommends serving E18hteen Gin over ice with a quality tonic and a fresh slice of apple, pear, pink grapefruit or nectarine to underline its fruit and citrus dimensions.

Using a large ice cube minimizes dilution, preserving the gin's intricate flavors. The apple slice not only pays homage to the gin's Somerset origin but also adds a crisp aroma, while the rosemary sprig introduces a complementary herbal note.

Top with 15 cl of Fever-Tree Mediterranean Tonic Water, whose subtle herbal nuances complement the gin's botanical complexity.

Gently stir to integrate.
