Lightly Singed Rosemary SprigLouise Gin is produced by La Mauvaise Graine, a craft distillery based in Lyon. The gin is built around a small group of botanicals, including citrus peels, spices, fresh herbs, pine notes, juniper and kiwis sourced from the department of Isere. The use of these kiwis contributes a natural fruit character that differentiates the gin from more traditional profiles.
The gin is distilled in a traditional column still, a method that allows precise extraction of the aromatic compounds from the botanicals while maintaining a clean and structured base spirit. The fruit is introduced to bring freshness and roundness, while the combination of herbs and pine elements adds depth and a slightly resinous dimension.
On the nose, the gin reveals a balanced mix of herbal and fruity notes. The palate opens with a fresh fruit impression, followed by a subtle bitterness associated with pine and herbs. The spices bring warmth and structure, creating a dynamic progression from fruit to earthier tones. The finish is moderately spicy and persistent, with a gentle return of the kiwi's acidity.
Louise Gin can be enjoyed neat or in cocktails where its fruity and herbal character can stand out. It pairs well with a neutral tonic water to highlight its botanical profile, or can be used in cocktails that benefit from fresh fruit notes and a structured aromatic backbone.
