Benefício Gin Delicado Description

Hemp arrives on a botanical list carrying more baggage than any other plant, and what it actually does here is quieter than the name suggests. It is herbaceous and green, closer to a grassy tea leaf than to anything else, and it sits alongside two real teas in a Portuguese London Dry bottled at 43%. Benefício names it without making a fuss of it.

The recipe is built around softness rather than assertion. The aroma opens sweet, and that sweetness comes from the orange rather than from any sugar, before the herbaceous material takes over. Hemp and green tea work together at that point, both green and slightly astringent, the tea supplying tannin and the hemp a broader vegetal note underneath it. Black tea sits lower with a darker, drier grip that lengthens the palate considerably. Ginger appears mid-palate with a gentle warmth rather than a bite. Lime and orange divide the citrus between sharp and round, cassia adds a dry cinnamon-like spice, angelica the earth beneath, and coriander seed ties the fruit to the spice. Juniper holds a clean line without ever pushing forward, which is what the word delicate on the label is actually describing.

Delicacy is easy to lose, so keep the glass simple. Fine-beaded neutral tonic, ice properly packed, and a generous pour. Orange peel follows the sweetness at the opening; a lime wedge sharpens the finish instead. Nothing sweetened belongs anywhere near it. The bottle is designed to be refilled, the labels are printed onto the glass rather than stuck on, and it ships with a spare cork. Naming hemp on a label invites a conversation the liquid does not want to have, and the tea is what steers it back. A bottle you are expected to refill is a different object from one you are expected to throw away. It closes herbal, tannic and soft.

Instructions

In a chilled highball glass, pour 5 cl of Benefício Gin Delicado, a Portuguese London Dry gin with a delicate balance of citrus and herbal notes.

Add large, clear ice cubes to maintain the gin's smoothness without excessive dilution.

Top with 15 cl of Fever-Tree Mediterranean Tonic Water, whose subtle herbal nuances complement the gin's botanicals like green tea and hemp.

Gently stir to integrate the flavors.

Garnish with a thin slice of fresh orange, enhancing the gin's inherent citrus sweetness.

For alternative pairings, consider Thomas Henry Botanical Tonic or East Imperial Burma Tonic.
